Physical Therapy involves the treatment, healing, and prevention of injuries. It is also used to help relieve pain, promote healing, and restore function and movement.
How is Physical Therapy used to treat pain?
This is done both actively and passively.
Some examples of passive therapy include: Ultrasound, Traction, Mobilization, and Hot Packs.
Some examples of active therapy include: Conditioning, Stretching, Pain relief exercises, and Core Strengthening
* Strengthening and mobility exercises that can be performed at home *Measurements will be taken that will give the therapist and patient realistic and functional goals that can be met after surgery,
*Explanations by the therapist to the patient and family (caregivers) of what to expect after surgery.
Post-Operative: Physical Therapy and your care after Surgery:
* Measurements will be taken (i.e. mobility, strength, swelling - girth measurements, et.)
* Initiate treatment to help decrease pain levels (i.e. massage, electrical stimulation, gentle oscillations, etc)
